The differentiator, made mechanical

“Vetted and trained” means nothing.
So here is ours in full.

Every hospitality agency in London claims higher-calibre staff. It is the default claim of the category, it cannot be disproved, and it is therefore worth precisely nothing. The only version of that claim worth making is one you can be held to — so ours is a numbered process you can check us against.

The pipeline

Six stages. Nobody skips one.

From application to first assignment. If someone does not clear a stage, they do not reach your event — including when we are short.

  1. 01

    Application and screening

Every applicant gives us their actual hospitality history — venues, roles, dates — and two references we can call. We call them. Applications with gaps we cannot account for do not progress.

  2. 02

    Interview, in person

A conversation, not a form. We are judging the things a CV cannot show: how someone presents, how they speak to a guest who is being difficult, whether they listen to a brief or talk over it.

  3. 03

    Right to work, documented

Original documents checked and recorded for every single person before they take an assignment, in line with Home Office requirements. No exceptions, including for people we know.

  4. 04

    A paid trial shift

Nobody joins the bench on the strength of an interview. Everyone works a paid trial shift under one of our supervisors first, and we watch how they actually work: pace, presentation, whether they find the next job without being told.

  5. 05

    The presentation standard

Written down, issued to every member of staff, and checked. It covers uniform, footwear, grooming, jewellery and phones. Writing it down turns a vague promise into something you can hold us to.

  6. 06

    Briefed before every assignment

Staff receive the venue, the access point, the timings, the dress code and the run of play before they leave home. Nobody should be learning your event from you at the door.

Stage 04, in detail

Nobody joins the bench on the strength of an interview.

Interviews select for people who are good at interviews. The only reliable test of a hospitality worker is a service, so everyone works a paid trial shift under one of our supervisors before they are available to book.

It is paid because unpaid trial shifts are exploitative and because the people worth having will not do them. It costs us money on candidates who do not make it. That cost is exactly what you are buying.

The no-show guarantee

The thing you are actually afraid of is booking eight people and seven turning up. So we will say it plainly: if someone we have booked does not arrive, we replace them or you do not pay for that shift. No argument, no invoice, no negotiation after the fact.

Stage 05, in detail

The presentation standard.

We publish it because writing something down converts it from a sales adjective into a promise. If a member of our staff arrives outside this standard, you have grounds to tell us so — and we would want to know.

Uniform
Pressed, correct for the client's stated dress code, spare shirt carried.
Footwear
Black, polished, closed-toe, and quiet on a hard floor.
Grooming
Hair tied back, nails short and clean, no strong fragrance.
Jewellery
Minimal. Nothing that can fall into food or catch on linen.
Phones
Off and out of sight for the whole shift. No exceptions.
Arrival
On site fifteen minutes before the shift starts, changed and ready.

Compliance

The paperwork behind the people.

Employing staff on PAYE makes us an employment business under the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003. These are the obligations that come with it, and we meet them.

PAYE, not self-employed

Our staff are employed by us and paid through PAYE, with tax and National Insurance deducted at source. When an agency gets employment status wrong, the hirer carries a share of that risk. With us there is nothing to get wrong.

Employer's liability insurance

Legally required of us as an employer, and held. The certificate is available on request — most venues ask, and we would rather send it before you have to.

Public liability insurance

Not a legal requirement, but expected by every serious venue. Held, and the certificate goes out with the same email as the EL certificate.

Right-to-work checks on file

Documented for every member of staff, and retained. If you are audited, the evidence exists and we can produce it.

Key Information Document

Issued to every worker before their first assignment, as the 2003 Regulations require. Written terms are in place with workers and with hirers.

Agency Workers Regulations

We track the 12-week qualifying period where staff are placed repeatedly with the same hirer, and we will tell you before it becomes your problem rather than after.

Certificates and written terms are available on request from hello@elementstaffing.co.uk, same working day.

One more thing

A vetting process does not make anyone infallible. People get ill, trains stop, and occasionally somebody turns out to be a worse fit than they looked. What a process does is make failures rare, and what the guarantee does is make them our problem instead of yours. Any agency promising perfection is either new or lying, and we are only one of those.
